GOAL

To access safe food for the society

Bangladesh Society for Safe Food (BSSF)

Safe food can be regarded as the food which is free or has acceptable level of contamination that may occur at any point in the growing, preparing, processing, storing, selling or serving of food.

Foods are generally originated from crop, livestock and fisheries. Safe food is the prerequisite for sound health of human and animals.

However, unsafe food causes illness in millions of humans and animals every year and many deaths. According to the World Health Organization, serious outbreaks of food-borne disease have been documented on every continent in the past decade, and in many countries rates of related illnesses are increasing significantly.

As a result, food safety has been identified as a public health priority at domestic, regional and international level.

Food Adulteration in Bangladesh :

In Bangladesh, food adulteration is considered as a “Silent Killer” now a day.

It is very difficult to find a sector of food industry in Bangladesh which is free of adulteration.
From raw vegetable and fruits to milk and milk products, fish, meat and processed food–every food item is contaminated.
Contamination of foods with toxic chemicals like carbide, formalin, heavy metal, chemical, textile colors, artificial sweeteners, DDT, urea and so on pose a serious threat to public health
especially in a country like Bangladesh through damaging vital organs like liver, kidney, pancreas etc.

About Us

In Bangladesh, literacy about safe food among people is poor, and level of awareness is very low.

As a result, producers, traders and/or consumers are equally being affected by unsafe foods.

Thus, it is crucial to maintain a safe food chain for ensuring health, and subsequently a health nation.

Taking this ground in front we establish a society namely “

“Bangladesh Society for Safe Food” bearing a slogan of “Safe Food for Healthy Nation”.

The Society will intensively work on different aspects of safe food in Bangladesh.

Objectives

Objective 1
Building up awareness on safe food among the producers, traders, consumers and other stakeholders
Objective 2
Collection, analyses and dissemination of information and facts regarding safe food, research and development for the Society
Objective 3
To find out the ways of food adulteration and mitigation measures, starting from the production up to the dining table.
